The fragrances of the "extrait de musique" collection by Filippo Sorcinelli are an exploration of the countless variations of incense. Each scent is named after an organ register, and the bottle cap precisely replicates a stop knob from the Grand Organ of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.
"Unda maris", Latin for "the motion of the sea", refers to a specific organ register known for its ethereal and soul-like quality. This is a "soul register", consisting of two pipes of the same length but with slightly different tonal characteristics. When played together, a phase shift between the two frequencies creates a particular physical phenomenon — gentle oscillations that result in a sound reminiscent of a flute.
The Unda maris register is similar to the voix humaine ("human voice") register, which mimics the timbre of the human voice. However, Unda maris differs in that its undulations are slower and more delicate, producing a more serene and meditative effect.
