The Extrait de Musique collection by Filippo Sorcinelli is an exploration of the countless variations of incense. Each fragrance is named after a specific organ stop, and the bottle faithfully reproduces the stop knob of the Grand Organ at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.
Bombarde is a reed stop, typically found in the pedal division and available in various pitch lengths: 8', 16', or 32' (the latter known as Controbombarde).
The organ's resonators are made from inverted wooden pyramids. In all French organs, the Controbombarde, together with the Bass Trumpet and Horn, forms a powerful reed chorus — or "battery" of pipes.
Producing its majestic sound requires exceptionally high air pressure.
The Bombarde stop produces a sound reminiscent of a trombone, yet distinguished by a deeper and fuller tonal richness — thanks to the use of double, and sometimes even triple, pipes. It is the most powerful stop of the organ.
